DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Sandy Koufax captured smiling proudly while holding up the Hickok Award belt for professional athletes that he was honored with on January 20, 1964. Koufax is dressed in a suit. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Sandy Koufax of the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers tries on the $10,000 jewel-studded Hickok Belt awarded him January 20 as Professional Athlete of the Year. Sandy won two games in the 1963 World Series, as the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees four straight." A second newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Sandy Koufax, Dodger hurler gets the feel of the $10,000 jewel studded Hickok Belt awarded him as Professional Athlete of the year." The final newspaper clipping that is affixed to the back of the photograph states, "Sandy Koufax of the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers tries on the $10,000 jewel-studded Hickok Belt awarded him January 20 as Professional Athlete of the Year. Sandy won two games in the 1963 World Series, as the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees four straight." Based on the newspaper clippings this photograph was taken on January 20, 1964.
