DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Sandy Koufax from the torso up. Koufax is standing next to a blackboard, holding up a baseball in his left hand, and smiling at the camera. There is a Merry Christmas banner strung up next to Koufax. The caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Local Boy in Uniform. Brooklyn-born Sanford (Sandy) Koufax, 18-year-old left hander dropped into the Dodger's Brooklyn office, Dec. 22, and tried on a uniform. Koufax was recently signed for a reported $20,000 bonus and will join the Brooklyn squad at Vero Beach, Florida, March 1. Koufax has been attending the University of Cincinnati, where he hurled for the freshman team, fanning 34 batters in two consecutive games." According to the caption, this photograph was taken on December 22, 1955.
