DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Sandy Koufax, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, captured as he throws one of his last pitches in a game against the New York Mets on June 30, 1962. The Dodgers beat the Mets 5-0. Koufax is bent down and his left arm is crossed in front of his body due to him just releasing his pitch. Koufax is dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniform. Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman, Tim Harkness, and an unidentified umpire are visible in the background. Harkness is also dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniform. Dodger stadium and the large scoreboard are visible in the background. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "...throws final pitch pitch to whip the New York Mets with a...5-0 shutout, to which the scoreboard testifies. The...Mets at Chavez Ravine 6/30." Another newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "The first no-hitter, June 30, 1962. Out of the Chavez Ravine night shadows, blazes the scoreboard vital statistics as Koufax hurls the final pitch that beat N.Y. Mets, 5-0." Based on the newspaper clippings and Koufax's time with the Dodgers this photograph was taken on June 30, 1962.
