DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack captured demonstrating the proper pitching technique to Philadelphia Athletics pitchers during spring training. Mack has his left leg lifted off the ground and has his right arm extended out behind him. He grips the ball in his right hand and wears a glove on his left. The pitchers stand on the sideline watching Mack's form. The pitchers are dressed in the Philadelphia Athletics uniforms. Fans are visible in the bleacher seating in the background. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "Lesson Clearwater, Fla.Connie Mack, manager of the Philadelphia Athletics who is known as 'the grand old man of baseball,' uncorks a pitch during a training session in Clearwater with his rookie pitchers. The pitchers are (left to right): Bob Shantz, Clement Hausmann, and Jimmie Wilson. 3-6-49." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on March 6, 1949.
